Restaurant Al Azmeer is in Velacherry is near our office (which is essentially the base of Namma Samayal). We frequent it often, the restaurant was okay according to us. Our favorite was policha kozhi with kushka.

You can’t say that the restaurant was very good enough, but you could see the vibrancy. Who ever established it, established it with a bullish mind. There were lot of people, mostly north eastern people.

When I went there first, despite it putting a face as an A/C hotel, kinda high class, I could find lot of flies in it. The workers had a busy time killing it with electric mosquito bat. But now it looks like the flies and the prosperity of the hotel has reduced.

In our recent visits we found that the taste of the hotels food has changed, people have changed, and the hotel’s infrastructure has gone bad. For example in our recent visit, there was no electricity (I mean there was power cut in Velacherry), so there was no grilled and tandoori chicken. We could order only chicken briyani and it was watery a bit, its taste was not up to mark. It was accompanied with onion raitha and brinjal. The brinjal was excellent I should say.

We also had problem paying the hotel as the person on the counter did not know to operate card swiping machine. It was sad to see the restaurant decline. A chicken briyani costs us Rs 130/- there, cheaper than the those offered by restaurants in 100 feet road Velacherry.

We at Namma Samayal wish the trend to reverse for Al Azmeer, for its glory days to come back.
